Ingredients
  

For the Base
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk room temperature
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 3 large eggs room temperature
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
For the Chantilly Cream
  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream chilled
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Topping
  • 1 cup mixed fresh berries strawberries, blueberries, raspberries

Method
 

Baking the Cake
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, mix milk, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract until combined.
  4. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  5. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and smooth the tops.
  6. Bake for 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
Making the Chantilly Cream
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the chilled heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract.
  2. Using an electric mixer, whip the cream until soft peaks form.
Assembling the Cake
  1. Place one cooled cake layer on a serving plate.
  2. Spread a layer of Chantilly cream over the top of the first cake layer.
  3. Place the second cake layer on top and spread Chantilly cream over the top and sides of the entire cake.
  4. Garnish the top with mixed fresh berries.
