Cooking the Oats
- In a medium saucepan, bring the water (or milk) and salt to a boil.
- Add the steel cut oats to the boiling water and stir briefly.
- Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 25-30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the oats are tender and have absorbed most of the liquid.
- Remove from heat and let sit, covered, for 5 minutes to thicken.
Assembling the Dish
- Spoon the cooked oats into bowls.
- Top with fresh berries, sliced banana, honey (or maple syrup), and chia seeds if using.
- Serve warm and enjoy your hearty breakfast!
