Caprese Salad

A refreshing Italian salad made with ripe tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, and fragrant basil, drizzled with olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

Ingredients
  

For the Base
  • 4 ripe tomatoes sliced
  • 8 ounces fresh mozzarella sliced
  • 1 cup fresh basil leaves
For the Dressing
  • 3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • to taste salt
  • to taste black pepper

Method
 

  1. Wash the tomatoes under running water and slice them into thick rounds.
  2. Slice the fresh mozzarella into similar thickness as the tomatoes.
  3. On a large platter, alternate layers of tomato slices and mozzarella slices.
  4. Tuck fresh basil leaves between the layers of tomatoes and mozzarella.
  5. In a small bowl, whisk together the olive oil and balsamic vinegar.
  6. Drizzle the dressing over the salad and season with salt and black pepper to taste.
  7. Serve immediately for the best flavor.
