Ingredients

For the Base
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1.5 cups warm water around 110°F
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil plus more for drizzling
For the Topping
  • 2 medium apples thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh rosemary chopped
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt for sprinkling

Method

Prepare the Dough
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In another bowl, mix the flour and salt together. Gradually add the flour mixture to the yeast mixture, stirring until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Let the Dough Rise
  1. Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Shape and Prepare for Toppings
  1. Once risen, punch down the dough and transfer it to a greased baking sheet. Stretch it out gently to fit the pan.
  2. Dimple the surface of the dough with your fingers to create small indentations.
Add Toppings
  1. Evenly distribute the sliced apples over the surface of the dough.
  2. Sprinkle the chopped rosemary and sea salt over the apples.
Bake the Focaccia
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Bake the focaccia for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
Serve
  1. Remove from the oven and drizzle with olive oil. Let it cool slightly before slicing and serving.
