Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Grease a deep baking dish with butter.
  3. Thinly slice the russet potatoes using a mandoline or sharp knife.
  4. In a bowl, mix heavy cream, minced garlic, salt, pepper, and thyme.
  5. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the baking dish, pour half the cream mixture over them, and sprinkle with half of the Gruyère cheese. Repeat with remaining ingredients.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes, then remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until golden brown.
