Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 cup warm water (110°F/43°C)
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter (melted), plus more for brushing

Instructions

  1. Prepare the yeast: In a small bowl, mix warm water and sugar. Sprinkle yeast over and let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Mix the dough: In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and melted butter; mix until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Knead: Transfer to a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic, adding flour as needed.
  4. First rise: Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
  5. Shape rolls: Punch down dough, divide it into pieces (about 1 ounce each), roll into balls, and place three balls in each muffin cup.
  6. Second rise & bake: Cover and let rolls rise for another 30 minutes. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C), brush tops with melted butter, and bake for about 20 minutes or until golden brown.
