  5. For the cheesecake layer: beat cream cheese with 1/4 cup sugar until smooth; add an egg and mix well.
  6. Pour half the brownie batter into the prepared pan. Dollop cheesecake mixture on top and swirl gently. Pour remaining brownie batter over it.
